Orthopedic Shoulder Surgeon Near MeTechnology has changed our world, and medicine has changed with it. At Lancaster Orthopedic Group, we embrace this change and continually integrate the latest evidence-based methods into our treatment plans. Dr. Bercik has long committed to learning the most intricate techniques in the field and completed two international fellowships under some of the most influential shoulder surgeons in the world, one of whom was Dr. Gilles Walch.

Upon returning to the United States, Dr. Bercik has remained dedicated to offering world-class care and innovative solutions beyond traditional orthopedic treatment standards. The shoulder is one of the most complex joints in the body and is responsible for a large percentage of arm movements. When the shoulder is injured, it can significantly hinder movement abilities. Because of this, having a shoulder surgeon who specializes in the upper extremities is important to ensure you are getting the best care available. At Lancaster Orthopedic Group, Dr. Bercik exclusively focuses on shoulder and elbow ailments to ensure every detail is given the attention it deserves.

Shoulder Bursae: What Is It?

The bursae are fluid-filled sacs that protect structures in our bodies, such as bones, tendons, and ligaments. They are lined with synovial membranes, which are connective tissue, and contain synovial fluid, a lubricating substance that helps cushion the body’s structures.

The bursae are typically found where tissues and bones come into contact. This includes the hips, knees, heels, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.

The shoulder is a very complex joint in a small space. Because of this, many structures rub against each other as you move or swing your arm. To prevent wear and tear of the shoulder structures, fluid-filled subacromial bursae are positioned between the acromion and the tendon. This helps the shoulder withstand continual movement without pain or degradation of the structures.
